Automation lands better on sound process.

Finance-led guidance from the team that built the platform.

dexIQ is built by finance experts who understand the detail, the controls and the risks. Advisory brings that expertise alongside the software, so automation lands on solid process, not on top of a mess.

Technology should work for people, not replace them. Our advisory work makes sure the process underneath your automation is sound, the controls are right, and your finance function spends its time on value.

  • Process review before and during automation.
  • Controls and compliance design from finance practitioners.
  • A pragmatic roadmap, starting where the pain is highest.
  • Backed by Dexterous Group, the outsourced finance department for hundreds of businesses.

Why the process comes before the software

Automating a process nobody has documented encodes whatever it currently does, including the parts that are wrong. The errors then happen faster and with more confidence.

The businesses that get the most from automation are usually the ones that used the implementation as a reason to answer questions they had been avoiding: who is actually allowed to approve this, why do we pay some suppliers twice a month and others quarterly, what is our real cost per invoice.

Our advisory work exists to answer those questions first. Sometimes the conclusion is that a process change delivers more than any software would, and we will say so.

What we look at

A review is grounded in your actual transactions rather than in a workshop about how the process is supposed to work.

  • Delegation of authority: whether thresholds match the spend distribution, and whether each approver adds review or delay.
  • Segregation of duties, particularly around supplier onboarding and bank detail changes.
  • Cost per invoice and per payment, calculated fully loaded rather than from a vendor benchmark.
  • Exception rates and their causes, which is usually where the real time goes.
  • Close sequence and the dependencies that make it longer than it needs to be.
  • Where automation pays, and where it would be premature.

Backed by people who run finance functions

dexIQ is built by Dexterous Group, which operates as the outsourced finance department for hundreds of Australian businesses. The advisory work comes from that practice rather than from a consulting model bolted onto a software company.

That is also why the product has the boundaries it does. People who have signed a BAS and released a payment run tend to be careful about what they let software do unsupervised.

Advisory, answered.

Do we need advisory to use dexIQ?

No. Many businesses implement without it. Advisory is worth considering when the process underneath is undocumented or contested, because automating an unclear process locks in whatever it currently does.

What does a process review cover?

Delegation of authority against your actual spend distribution, segregation of duties, fully loaded cost per invoice, exception rates and their causes, and the close sequence. It works from your transaction data rather than from a description of how the process is meant to run.

Will you tell us not to automate something?

Yes, where that is the honest answer. Low-volume processes, anything genuinely judgement-heavy, and processes about to change for another reason are usually better left alone until the rest is working.

Who does the advisory work?

Finance practitioners from Dexterous Group, which runs as the outsourced finance department for hundreds of Australian businesses. They have prepared the statements and released the payment runs they are advising on.

How does this fit with our existing accountant?

It complements rather than replaces them. Your accountant owns the statutory and tax relationship. This work is about the operating process underneath: controls, thresholds, workflow and where automation belongs.
